Millionaires shortbread

At the request of my darling daughters, we made homemade millionaires shortbread, on a whim, one Sunday morning!
Having only ever had the shop bought version in the past and found it remarkably disappointing, we were all really really pleased with how delicious this first attempt was!
The shortbread recipe was from the “Be-Ro” book, the gooey caramel was homemade and just perfect!
We had loads of compliments about it and have added it to one of our favourites lists!

Rainbow birthday cake

This was such a fun cake to make.
Each layer was a different colour of the rainbow. It was a first attempt at making it, I’m really pleased that it came out as beautifully as it did!
It was for three friends birthdays, the theme for the whole party was “BGL and T -party” with gay pride flags displayed and a dress code!
The outside was covered in big and little stars, each in their own colour section. When the first slice was cut there were many ooooh’s and aahhh’s and great excitement.

Super Critical Mass and Capsule organised a unique event at the opening of the new Library of Birmingham on Tuesday 03/09/2013 which my eldest and I were fortunate enough to take part in. It was quite a unique experience and we both felt really lucky to have taken part in this event. We met some really lovely musicians there, and made some great memories.

There were approximately 100 brass players who were placed into 4 “family” groups, and stood in the large rotunda area of the new library and played different, prearranged notes from the E minor chord. The sound was quite strange yet exciting all at once.

The library cost a whopping £189 million to build, and was designed by a female architect!
There were lots of cameras and tv crews snapping and filming to make a programme to air the following week on BBC Culture Show (10/09/2013).
I heard that the library was visited by 10,000 on opening day. As with all new things, there were a few snags, it seems that the escalators at the new Library seem to have inherited the same character traits as the escalators at the old library – the “up” escalator which was positioned in front of where I was standing had a fault and kept stopping, repeatedly! But then again, it was an Otis one!
After we had played we had free lunch and then had the opportunity to look around, we managed to find both roof top gardens and also get to the top floor where there was a lovely view of Birmingham. Sadly, it wasn’t as high as some of the places we had visited on our European holiday this summer, but we still a great view and felt on top of the world.
